Men’s tennis: Pirates fare well at OEC Tournament

MISSION VIEJO - Orange Coast College men’s tennis players Marcel
Brouwer, Alan Hoang and Mason Wei will each be taking a trip to Palm
Desert for the Southern California Regional Tournament, May 4-6,
following their strong performances in the Orange Empire Conference
Tournament last week.
In singles action, Brouwer advanced to the quarterfinals, before
encountering a three-set setback to Saddleback’s Arif Hasan.
Wei and Hoang reached the doubles quarterfinals, before being ousted by
the eventual champions David DiMartino and Brock Berry, also of
Saddleback.
“Our guys gave one of the top doubles teams in the state all they could
handle,” Coach Tandy Gillis said. “They played a heck of a match against
them.”
Quarterfinalists in both singles and doubles advanced to the SoCal
Regionals, which will be held at the Monterey Country Club.
