Softball: Pirates finally drop one

PALM SPRINGS - The Orange Coast College softball team stretched its
winning streak to eight before finally losing, 4-1, to Victor Valley in
the third game of the College of the Desert Tournament Saturday.
OCC (8-1) won its first two games against Cerritos, 6-2, and Imperial
Valley, 7-2, leaving the Pirates one win from tying the school record of
nine wins in a row set in 1992.
Monica Ortega threw complete games in both of the Pirates’ wins,
improving her record to 6-0. In her two starts, Ortega allowed only one
earned run.
Kim Guillen and Renee Snyder each went 2 for 3 for the Pirates in the two
wins.
Kristin Degree was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base in the
game-three loss. She is 17 for 17 in stolen bases this season.
The Pirates return to Palm Springs today for three more games, starting
at 10 a.m. against Southwestern.
