Surf City Blues holds off Redlands

Rachael Maulit’s top all-around performance included a game-high 14
points, 12 steals, and six rebounds, and the West Huntington Beach girls
6th-grade All-Net team went on to post a 30-23 victory over Redlands in
National Junior Basketball weekend play.
Maulit scored 10 of those points in the game’s first eight minutes as the
Surf City Blues took control early with a 12-4 lead.
Redlands managed to pull to within three points in the second half, but
Laura Boggeln, Catherine Marcoly, and Susie Bartolme all mad key baskets
as the Surf City Blues pulled away to improve to 6-1 overall.
Bartolme dominated the boards with 16 rebounds, and both Erin Barney and
Courtney Brown combined for an additional 13 to lead West Huntington
Beach, which travels to Newport Mesa Sunday.

EAST HB NJB
The East Huntington Beach girls 7th-grade All-Net Silver Surfer Girls
used a relentless 3-1-1 press to subdue host Mission Viejo, 47-38, at
Saddleback College. Mission Viejo fought back to take a 38-37 lead, but
Kay-Dee lane hit a 12-footer to put East Huntington Beach back on top for
good, a basket which started a 10-0 run to end the game by the Silver
Surfer Girls. Lane finished with nine points and seven steals, Dana
Randall-Olair scored 17 points with five steals, Maureen Holloway was a
terror on defense with 14 steals, Janee Ortiz grabbed eight rebounds, and
Sarah King blocked three shots with four steals.
