Political Landscape: Tim Stoaks announces run for Newport Beach City Council

Tim Stoaks is making a run for the District 3 City Council seat up for election in November in Newport Beach.
With the campaign slogan “Working principle above personality,” Stoaks said there appears to be no trust in current city leaders and he wants to “create a positive and trusting consensus relationship between the residents and City Council.”
Stoaks describes himself as a fiscal conservative who supports pension and campaign finance reform, lobbyist registration, quieter and “higher and quicker” departures out of John Wayne Airport and balanced development in which variances and exceptions are not the norm.
He also supports district-based council elections — Newport Beach council members represent the districts they live in but are elected by voters citywide — and electing the city attorney.
Stoaks, a 15-year Newport resident, has established or served on the boards of directors for local groups including AirFair, Line in the Sand, Still Protecting Our Newport, Friends of Newport Beach Animal Shelter and Newport Harbor Education Foundation.
Stoaks is challenging for current Mayor Marshall “Duffy” Duffield’s seat representing Dover Shores, Bayshores, Santa Ana Heights and other neighborhoods along the western and northern edges of Upper Newport Bay.
