Florida lawmakers Friday dropped their threat to dissolve Hampton, a 1-square-mile city located an hour’s drive south of Jacksonville.
Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, speaking March 4 in Tallahassee, Fla., was one of two state lawmakers who called for the audit of Hampton’s finances. “We are here to help to make sure there is no longer a government serving itself and not the people,” Bradley said. “We were going to remove the city if the people didn’t reform it.” (Phil Sears / Associated Press)
