Tutu Project: A man in a pink tutu and the woman who loves him

Bob and Linda Carey’s love story is told in a new video, and it centers on a middle-aged man with a bit of a belly being photographed in an assortment of locations while wearing a big pink tutu and little else.
If that’s the best sight in this video, the best sound is Linda’s laughter. And that’s why Bob Carey began wearing the tutu, to make his wife of a quarter-century smile amid her battle against cancer.
Carey, a photographer, began taking self-portraits while wearing the tutu after his wife’s 2003 breast cancer diagnosis. Three years later, Linda’s cancer was found to have spread to her liver and was deemed incurable, according to a 2012 interview they gave on “Today.”

The new video came about after German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom approached the Careys to tell their story, resulting in “a commercial and print campaign in Germany,” the couple said on their website.
The Careys’ nonprofit organization raises money for cancer treatment-related costs, supporting organizations that provide medical supplies, transportation to treatment and child care.
The Times reached out to the Careys for comment and hadn’t heard back as of the publication of this post. But this quote from Bob Carey may say it all:
“Her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing — no, the only thing — we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others.”
