A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drugging and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl, Riverside police said Wednesday night.
The victim had run away from her home and was given a ride by a man in a car late last week, according to the Riverside Police Department.
The suspect drove the girl to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her, police said. The man then drove the victim to a Corona hotel, police said, where she was given drugs and further sexually assaulted.
The suspect dropped the girl off in a parking lot in Riverside, where she walked to a police station.
Police on Wednesday said they arrested Erik Boettcher on suspicion of assaulting the girl. He was released from state prison under a “program where nonviolent offenders are released from incarceration early in order to combat prison overcrowding,” police officials said in a statement.
Boettcher was being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside without bail. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Rita Cobb at (951) 353-7120 or Det. Laura Ellefson at (951) 353-7126.
