Thousands to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Pershing Square

The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks in conjunction with Pershing Square will host a St. Patrick’s Day celebration that will include a parade and concert.

Organizers are expecting about 5,000 people to attend Monday’s public event, which will also include food trucks and a beer garden.

The event will begin with the launch of a parade at 5^th and Hill Streets, which will include L.A. Councilman Tom LaBonge, the L.A. Police Emerald Society Pipes and Drums band and 32 uniformed police officers from Berlin, Germany. The parade will be led by the Los Angeles Fire Department Hogs motorcycle club, which is made up of active and retired LAFD firefighters.

Organizers say the parade will travel south on Hill to 7^th Street; west to Olive Street; and then north to 6^th Street, where they will enter the park.

The parade was scheduled to end around 11:15 a.m., just before LaBonge and L.A. Councilman Jose Huizar were scheduled to present the Irish man and woman of the year. At noon, the Irish rock band “The Young Dubliners” will perform.
