One person was killed and two others were injured Friday evening in a shooting in the San Fernando Valley, police said.
Police were called to the 7600 block of Canby Avenue in Reseda about 6:45 p.m., said LAPD Sgt. Steve Embrich.
A male gunman wielding an AK-47 rifle had reportedly opened fire at an apartment building, he said.
Police took the suspected gunman into custody, Embrich said.
The names and ages of the victims and the suspected shooter were not yet available, nor was the condition of the wounded.
[Update 9:06 p.m: Since 2007, 25 other homicides have taken place within two miles of Friday’s shooting, according to data collected in The Times Homicide Report.
Reseda, which has a violent crime rate that places it in the mid-range for Los Angeles city neighborhoods, had not had a homicide since the April stabbing death of Kevin Orellana, 18, who was killed following a fight at Cleveland High School where he had been playing handball.]
