O.C. man charged with having weapons, potentially explosive devices

Prosecutors on Monday charged a 56-year-old Laguna Niguel man with four felonies after he was arrested on suspicion of possession of weapons, including a machine gun, and potentially explosive devices.
The Orange County district attorney’s office said Juan Jesus Martinez was charged with one felony count each of intent to unlawfully make a destructive device, possession of a destructive device in a private home, possession of a machine gun and possession of an assault weapon.
Orange County sheriff’s deputies went to Martinez’s home Sept. 2 on a report of domestic violence. Once inside the home, authorities saw a number of weapons and explosives.
Authorities said they found 30 to 40 rifles, as well as “several inert military ordinance and substances determined to be precursors to homemade explosives.”
According to booking records, Martinez is described as a physician and has posted bail.
He also faces one misdemeanor count each of domestic battery with corporal injury and injuring a wireless device with intent to prevent a crime report.
Martinez is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
