A man on a bicycle stabbed another man sitting in his car outside a business in Perris early Saturday and then drove off with the victim’s vehicle, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim did nothing to provoke the attack, the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. Deputies spoke to witnesses and watched surveillance video of the carjacking, which occurred about 5 a.m.
The victim’s vehicle was later found crashed nearby, authorities said. Deputies searched the area but could not find the assailant.
The victim, identified only as a 58-year-old man, was transported to a hospital for surgery and is expected to survive.
