L.A. Now Live: Discuss possible nepotism at the L.A. Fire Department
- Share via
Join Times staffers Ben Welsh and David Zahniser for a discussion at 1 p.m. about the possibility of nepotism in the Los Angeles Fire Department, including the recent reassignment of two top commanders who oversaw hiring and training.
The commanders were reassigned after officials learned their sons advanced during a recruitment process that has come under scrutiny from city officials.
Welsh and Times staff writer Robert J. Lopez first reported in late February that more than 20% of the recruits in a new LAFD training class are sons or nephews of current department firefighters.
There were thousands of applications last year for 70 coveted firefighting jobs at the LAFD.
