Brush fire burns in hills below Griffith Observatory

A small brush fire ignited Tuesday evening in the hills below the Griffith Observatory, drawing a crowd of spectators as firefighters swarmed the scene.
The blaze ignited about 7:45 p.m. and burned about 3 to 4 acres of medium to heavy brush, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a series of alerts.
Aerial video showed plumes of white smoke above the blaze as fire crews doused flames from the roadway, aided by a lack of wind. Almost 100 firefighters put out the fire in about 2½ hours.
The topography-driven fire moved slowly off Western Canyon, the Fire Department said. Firefighters faced challenges maneuvering their equipment because of the rugged and remote terrain.
No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Crews will stay on scene through the night.
