Eight injured in big rig crash on 60 Freeway; lanes closed

Eight people were injured — including one person who was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter — when a big rig collided with other vehicles on the eastbound 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar on Wednesday morning.

California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said the crash occurred about 10 a.m. on the eastbound 60 at Grand Avenue.

When emergency crews arrived, Villalobos said, officers found what appeared to be a four-vehicle collision. He said it was unclear what caused the accident.

One of the vehicles involved was a Caltrans vehicle parked on the right shoulder of the freeway.

“It did end up with the big rig going over the side of the road and the driver being trapped in the cab,” Villalobos said. The driver has since been extricated, he said.

Four eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed. Villalobos said he expected the lanes to be reopened about 1 p.m.
