A 28-year-old man was arrested in Long Beach this week after a routine traffic stop led authorities to search his home, where they reported finding about 80 pounds of cocaine.
Police said they stopped Hildefonso Angulo of Long Beach for a traffic violation Monday in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue. Angulo seemed “unusually nervous,” police said in a statement, and was found to be driving without a license.
During a search of Angulo’s car, police said they discovered “highly suspicious” packaging material. Detectives later served a search warrant at Angulo’s residence in the 1100 block of East 72nd Street and seized roughly 80 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of between $2.8 million and $3.6 million.
Investigators also seized more than three pounds of methamphetamine, a handgun and ammunition, more than $3,000 in cash, and a stolen vehicle, authorities said.
Angulo was arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotics for sale and was being held at the Long Beach City Jail in lieu of $1-million bail, according to police.
