A woman was killed Monday night after crashing into the back of a big rig on the 605 Freeway in Santa Fe Springs.
Edith Bastidas, 39, was driving her 2003 Ford Focus behind a big rig on the northbound 605 just south of Telegraph Road around 9:24 p.m., according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol. Bastidas “failed to stop in time” and rear-ended the big rig, the CHP added.
The collision caused “major impact damage to the front of the Ford,” and Bastidas succumbed to her injuries, the CHP said. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:50 p.m.
The driver of the big rig, Bernard Townsel, 44, of Long Beach, was not injured or arrested.
Bastidas’ speed at the time of the collision is still under investigation, according to the CHP.
