Chemical weapons: A Late Briefing item in the Feb. 5 LATExtra about Libya’s destruction of chemical weapons incorrectly described the North African nation as a neighbor of Syria.
Heroin overdoses: An article in the Feb. 6 Section A about the use of the drug naloxone, which can act as an antidote to a heroin overdose, stated that legislation has been introduced in California to make the drug available over the counter. The measure calls for state health authorities to determine how the drug will be disbursed at pharmacies. Also, the article said New York limits the drug’s use by certain first responders. New York has expanded the use of naloxone by first responders and allows trained bystanders to administer the drug to prevent overdoses.
Car registration: A column in the Feb. 7 Business section about online auto registration quoted Jessica Gonzalez, a California Department of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman, as saying that fee-charging online companies don’t have access to the DMV’s system. She acknowledged later that the companies have “limited access” to the DMV’s system so they can process their customers’ renewals.
