Kenneth Schechter: An obituary in the Dec. 22 California section on Kenneth Schechter, a former Navy pilot who flew 100 miles and landed safely despite being temporarily blinded by enemy fire, misstated the final rank of Howard Thayer, the Navy pilot who guided Schechter from another plane. Thayer was a lieutenant commander, not a lieutenant colonel, when he died in 1961.
Remains returned: An article in the Dec. 21 Section A about a missing soldier’s remains being returned to his widow nearly 63 years after his death said the North Korean government returned the remains to the U.S. The remains of Army Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Gantt were turned over by a South Korean citizen.
