‘Ray Eames: In the Spotlight’ at Williamson Gallery

Ray Eames was an accomplished artist in her own right and yet her contributions to the design world are often overshadowed by those of her dynamic husband and design partner, Charles Eames.

“Ray Eames: In the Spotlight,” a joint collaboration between Williamson Gallery at Art Center College of Design, Eames Office and A+D Architecture and Design Museum, highlights her personal contributions to the iconic collaboration through an exhibition of her personal sketches, paintings, films and other works.

Eames’ talents as a graphic designer are on display here courtesy of her hand-written letters and packages, paper dolls and process drawings. These personal mementos, along with her furniture and other designs, help to demonstrate her lyrical -- and varied -- interests, as well as her development as an artist.

“Ray Eames: In the Spotlight,” runs through May 4 at Williamson Gallery, 1700 Lida St., Pasadena. Gallery hours: noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays; noon to 9 p.m. Fridays, noon to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
