The Duchess of Cambridge has been changing things up a bit recently, but jaws dropped in some quarters when she attended the British premiere of the film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” on Thursday. In a sad coincidence, it was during the screening that the Duchess and her husband Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, received word that South African anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela, the subject of the film, had passed away. [Express]

Macy’s announced Thursday that it plans to debut a women’s wear collection inspired by Mexican-born pop star and actress Thalia in spring 2014. Called Thalia Sodi, the collection “will be designed for the style, fit and color preference of Hispanic women,” Macy’s said in a news release.
Pantone has decreed that the color of the year for 2014 will be a pinkish-purple called Radiant Orchid. [Los Angeles Times]
