12 Years a Slave Director Steve McQueen’s 2013 historical drama is based on the true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor) — a free man in the North who was kidnapped and became enslaved in the South. Lupita Nyong’o, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt also star. 8 p.m. HBO

The Brittany Murphy Story Amanda Fuller stars in this new TV movie as the young actress whose bubbly public persona masked a host of deep-seated insecurities that led to eating disorders and health issues until her death in 2009 at age 32. Sherilyn Fenn also stars. 8 p.m. Lifetime.
