How ‘Blindspot’ clinched an early Season 2 order from NBC

Some new shows are still waiting to hear their fates for the rest of Season 1, but NBC’s thriller “Blindspot” is way ahead: On Monday, the show got a very early order for a second season.
“Blindspot” stars Jaimie Alexander as a mysterious woman who is found with her body covered in tattoos, each of which offers a clue to a crime. Sullivan Stapleton plays the FBI agent investigating the case.
Typically, networks hold their cards close to their vests about an upcoming season. But NBC executives have seen their own clues, leading them to believe that more “Blindspot” would be a safe bet.

Those clues reside in the Nielsen data. “Blindspot” is averaging 9.3 million total viewers on the nights episodes are first telecast, for a decent if not spectacular broadcast audience. However, it is one of the most popular shows to watch later on DVR and set-top boxes. In fact, the series gets more than one-third of its total audience that way.
Add up viewing over the course of a week, and “Blindspot” has averaged 15.1 million total viewers -- a hit in anyone’s book this days. Maybe NBC’s move isn’t as mysterious as it first looks.
