Producer Steven Spielberg’s latest protege, Shia LaBeouf, leads the cast, which includes Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis (the Commish!) and Billy Bob Thornton.

‘Nights in Rodanthe’

Richard Gere and Diane Lane team up for the third time (after “Unfaithful” and “The Cotton Club”). They’re supported by “Law & Order: SVU” man Christopher Meloni and “Pineapple Express” star James Franco in a bit part.

Winner: Gere and Lane may have a longer resume, but in terms of capturing the zeitgeist, Spielberg has done an impressive job of assembling actors we currently love from other places. LaBeouf just held his own against Indiana Jones, Chiklis is doing his victory lap on “The Shield” and Billy Bob Thornton seems to be on screen year-round.  (Ralph Nelson / Associated Press)
