Kate Bush to play first live dates since 1979

Kate Bush, the grande dame of English art-pop, is returning to the stage. It took her only 35 years to do it.

Bush has announced that she’s booked a long run of live dates at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. The shows are slated to begin Aug. 26 and continue through Sept. 19. The tickets go on sale March 28.

Her regal vocals and experimental textures have always stayed relevant. Without her, Lorde and Florence & the Machine probably wouldn’t exist in their present form, and Bush has released many albums in the interim, including 2011’s “50 Words for Snow.” In 2013, she received a CBE award for her contributions to music.

This run of shows, titled “Before the Dawn,” is her first since her last tour in 1979. She’s given many reasons for this over the years, including a fear of flying, raising a family and the death of her lighting designer in a 1979 accident.

Apparently, her U.K. fans have been eagerly awaiting her return. The Telegraph reported that Bush’s website, where she announced the dates, buckled under all the new traffic.
