Arcade Fire gets dancey, interactive on ‘Reflektor’ video

By now we’ve come to expect interactive Web videos from Arcade Fire, and the woozy user-controlled effects on the Vincent Morisset-directed “Reflektor” don’t disappoint. Go watch it at the band’s new dedicated site, if you like.

What’s new is that Arcade Fire made a straight-up disco single that Larry Levan might have dropped at Paradise Garage in a different era. (A limited-edition 12” single version of the track will also be available at Amoeba Records in Hollywood at 9 tonight.)

The production touches of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy are all over “Reflektor,” the title track from the band’s forthcoming album. There’s a four-four kick thump; smatterings of congas and noisy little synths, coupled with Talking Heads guitar slashes and lyrics about love in a time of digital disconnection.

We’ve heard a few house-tilted edits of “Rebellion (Lies)” on dance floors in our day, but DJs won’t have to get creative now -- this is a straight-ahead floor-filler meant not for festival uplift but sweaty, underlighted nightclubs.

Arcade Fire might have been one of the last rock bands to get in on the turn toward vintage dance-music sounds. But heck if it hasn’t done it better than just about anyone.
