Warner Bros. buys Netherlands-based TV programmer Eyeworks Group

Looking to expand its international holdings, Warner Bros. Television Group has acquired Eyeworks Group, a Netherlands-based production company that makes both scripted and reality programming.

Eyeworks makes TV shows for 16 territories including the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Australia. It also has operations in the U.S., but that unit is not part of the sale and will remain independent.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Bloomberg, citing De Telegraaf, reported the price to be about $278 million.

Warner Bros. Chief Executive Kevin Tsujihara said the deal “represents a significant next step in our strategy.”

The acquisition is the latest in a string of deals Warner Bros. has made including the 2010 purchase of Shed Media.

Eyeworks Chief Executive Reinout Oerlemans will step down after the deal closes and become chairman of Eyeworks USA.
