Senior housing complex being built near Compton transit stops

Work is underway on Metro @ Compton Senior Apartments, a $19.5-million housing community near several transit stops, including the light rail Metro Blue Line.
The project is being developed by Meta Housing Corp. of Los Angeles, which specializes in building subsidized housing for families and senior citizens. Residents of Metro @ Compton must be 55 or older.
The County of Los Angeles Housing Authority helped fund the 75-unit complex under construction at 302 N. Tamarin Ave. in Compton. The development is across the street from the recently completed Compton Senior Center.

“Metro @ Compton will fill a void in this market for a richly amenitized, transit-oriented, affordable senior housing community,” said Kasey Burke, president of Meta Housing. “The project will also make use of an underutilized vacant lot, helping to improve the surrounding neighborhood and the economic vitality of the area.”
The Metro @ Compton will have one- and two-bedroom units with rent for qualifying seniors ranging from $430 to $900 per month. Each unit will include a balcony, full air conditioning and new appliances.
When completed early next year, the apartment community will use solar power and a photovoltaic system that will capture sunlight to heat water and to generate electricity for the building.
The complex will have a large community room and an outdoor “living room” with a fountain and a barbecue, Meta Housing said.
