Sam Farmer’s NFL film review

A common postgame response to questions after NFL games is, “I have to wait to see the film.” Times NFL writer Sam Farmer sorts through the best of Monday’s film review:
Tony Sparano, Dolphins coach, on his team blowing a 21-point lead to lose to the Saints, 46-34:
“Coulda, shoulda, wouldas, but that’s a game where we had it in control several times but let it get away. We just didn’t get things done in the fourth quarter.”
::
Mike McCarthy, Packers coach, on his team’s 31-3 victory at Cleveland:
“Our confidence is high, and it damn
well should be.”
::
Larry Johnson, Chiefs running back, on Twitter, comparing his father and Kansas City Coach Todd Haley, once a collegiate golfer:
“My father played for the coach from ‘rememeber the titans’. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn.”
::
Peter Schaffer, Johnson’s agent, in defense of his client’s tweet:
“He was trying to make a statement about his dad, and obviously he didn’t articulate it well.”
::
Rex Ryan, Jets coach, on replacing running back Leon Washington, who suffered a season-ending leg fracture in a 38-0 victory at Oakland:
“Maybe three or four guys have to replace him. There’s no way one guy can replace him. There’s no way that can happen.”
::
Mark Sanchez, Jets quarterback, on eating a hot dog while sitting on the bench during that blowout:
“I probably should have eaten one of those bars or something, but someone offered [a hot dog], so I grabbed it and tried to be discreet about it, but obviously not discreet enough. So
I shouldn’t have done that, and it won’t happen again.”
::
Tom Cable, Raiders coach, on a JaMarcus Russell pass that was out of the reach of receiver Todd Watkins and intercepted by New York’s Darrelle Revis:
“When you see it on film, it’s pretty obvious that would have been a tough play for Superman.”
::
Mike Singletary, 49ers coach, on making a switch from Shaun Hill at
quarterback:
“Alex Smith will be the quarterback. We’re not going to be flavor of the month with this guy this week, that guy next week. I had to make
a decision based on what I feel gives us the best chance to win.”
