Kearin resigns from Loyola

Jeff Kearin has resigned as football coach at Los Angeles Loyola for “personal reasons” and will be replaced on an interim basis by defensive coordinator Adam Guerra, school spokesman Ben Tomlin said Saturday.
Loyola did not play this week and is 2-2 on the season after a victory last week over Bellflower St. John Bosco. Kearin took over for Steve Grady in 2005 and guided the Cubs to the Southern Section Division I championship in his rookie season as coach. But the Cubs didn’t make the playoffs the next two years before returning to the postseason last year.
Loyola lost its top player, running back Anthony Barr, to a broken leg in the second week of this season.
Kearin submitted his resignation Friday, but Loyola players didn’t learn of it until Saturday afternoon.
Kearin could not be reached for comment. Loyola next plays on Saturday against Valencia.
