An American Airlines passenger who became ill aboard a flight from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to New York died on the plane. A relative who was traveling with her said Carine Desir, 44, was at first denied a request for oxygen and later, when a flight attendant tried to administer it, the tank was empty.
The airline confirmed the flight death and said medical professionals had tried to save Desir, who was returning home to Brooklyn. Desir, who had heart disease, died of natural causes, medical examiner’s office spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said.
American Airlines spokeswoman Sonja Whitemon wouldn’t comment on Desir’s cousin Antonio Oliver’s claims of faulty medical equipment.
