SWAT may name base for Simmons

The mayor, the chief of police and several L.A. City Council members are backing a move to name the LAPD’s new SWAT headquarters after officer Randal D. Simmons, who was shot and killed Feb. 7 by a barricaded gunman.
Simmons was the city’s first SWAT officer killed in the line of duty, and officials said it was fitting that the department’s new SWAT headquarters be named the Randal D. Simmons Police Station.
The facility, which is currently the LAPD’s Rampart Station, is located at 2710 W. Temple St.
The Rampart Station is moving to a new location.
