A Border Patrol agent shot a suspected migrant smuggler in the leg in a San Diego motel room. The injury is not life-threatening.
Border Patrol spokesman Mark Endicott said two agents tried to arrest two suspected smugglers early Wednesday at the Economy Inn motel, near the border. One suspect allegedly began moving his hands under the bed sheets, prompting an agent to fire his weapon.
Authorities did not release the identity of the man who was shot.
Earlier this month, Border Patrol agents shot and killed a suspected migrant smuggler near a casino in east San Diego County. In that case, authorities said the suspect drove his truck toward the agents, who were on foot.
