OSCAR’S SHORTS

Receiving an Oscar nomination for live-action short for the Belgian comedy “Tanghi Argentini” has been the “cherry on the big cake” for producer Anja Daelemans. The whimsical tale, about an office worker who asks a colleague to teach him the tango (Dirk van Dijck and Hilde Norga, pictured), had already won 18 awards before earning an Oscar nod. Beginning Friday in 50 U.S. theaters, audiences can experience it and nine other Oscar-nominated live-action and animated shorts in two programs, playing locally at the Landmark in West L.A. and Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 in Pasadena. Making “Tanghi Argentini,” Daelemans says, took a lot of teamwork. “I have also produced and co-produced some feature films, and it’s a totally different approach on a short film,” Daelemans says. “The characters need to be set from the beginning.” Starts Fri. $12, Landmark; $10, Playhouse 7. www.magpictures.com
