High gas prices, high oil profits

I’m tired of being fleeced every time I put my foot on my car’s gas pedal.
Jobs in the U.S. are disappearing, homes are in default, pension funds are being devastated and recession is on the horizon.
All the while, Exxon is reporting billions in profit -- the highest in history -- continuing to pick our pockets for our few remaining dollars. (“Exxon and Chevron both see profits soar,” Feb. 2.)
What became of the notion put forth by Sens. Byron L. Dorgan and Christopher J. Dodd in 2005 of a windfall profits rebate from oil firms to help people deal with the high cost of energy? Gone, I fear, with Sen. Dodd’s candidacy.
