Their picks for last year’s best music

“I was just moved by Amy Winehouse and the music [on ‘Back to Black’]. I think she has best new artist locked up and maybe album of the year. . . . With everything that’s been going on with her, I don’t know what to think. I’m worried about her. Part of me likes some of the crazy stuff -- it’s so rock ‘n’ roll, you know? But where are the people that are supposed to be watching out for her?”
-- Shelby Lynne,
best new artist Grammy winner, 2000
“The only really interesting artist who broke out in 2007 was Amy Winehouse. I listen to ‘Back to Black,’ and there were a few more albums I admired, like the ones by Paul McCartney, the Foo Fighters, White Stripes and Velvet Revolver. I don’t wish to take anything away from any of the other nominees, but it just hasn’t been a very exciting year for music in general.”
-- Ozzy Osbourne,
two-time Grammy winner, nominated this year for hard rock performance
“My favorite two records of the year that are nominated are probably [Arcade Fire’s] “Neon Bible” and [LCD Soundsystem’s] “Sound of Silver.” . . . Neon Bible” is just an epic, beautiful record. . . . I don’t think it’s as good as, say, [Radiohead’s] ‘OK Computer,’ but it’s in that category of an album by a band that just sounds like they’re completely at the peak of their psychic and musical powers.”
-- Mark Ronson,
nominated for producer of the year for his work with Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen
