Chopper fends off pirates

A German military helicopter foiled an attempt by pirates to seize an Egyptian ship off the coast of Somalia, swooping in after a passing vessel sent an alert.
The Egyptian freighter with 31 crew members was sailing through the Gulf of Aden between Yemen and Somalia en route to Asia when pirates in a speedboat began pursuing it.
A passing ship reported the incident, and the German navy frigate Karlsruhe dispatched a helicopter.
The pirates fled as the helicopter reached the vessel, but not before opening fire and wounding one of the ship’s crewmembers.
