Turan Missed the Boat

Re “A Revelation That Took Two Decades” (July 29):
It’s been 20 years since the original release of “Apocalypse Now” and Kenneth Turan still does not see the basic, fundamental flaw in it: It makes no sense whatsoever to send the Martin Sheen character up the Mekong River in a boat as it does in the novel.
It is the ‘60s after all, and he should’ve been sent in a helicopter. But had he been, the movie would’ve ended mercifully in about an hour.
