A worker installing lighting fixtures in a Santa Ana office was killed Friday when he slipped off some scaffolding and toppled headfirst onto a marble floor, officials said.
Jose Noriega, 39, of Carson, an employee of Ameritech Lighting in Anaheim, may have lost his balance before falling about 15 feet, Cal/OSHA spokesman Dean Fryer said.
Noriega still had vital signs when paramedics arrived shortly after the 8:12 a.m. accident and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. He was pronounced dead a short time later, said Capt. Randy Black of the Santa Ana Fire Department.
The accident occurred in an atrium of a new office building at MacArthur Boulevard and Main Street.
Cal/OSHA will continue its investigation, Fryer said.
