Jeff Uyesaka, an assistant football coach at Goleta Dos Pueblos High, has been selected to replace Coach Jeff Hesselmeyer, who faces three felony charges after his arrest last week for possession of marijuana and methamphetamine.
Uyesaka, a 1989 Dos Pueblos graduate, has been an assistant football coach and head boys’ soccer coach at the school the last four years.
Uyesaka was unavailable for comment but said in a statement released by the Santa Barbara Unified High School District that “the current events surrounding Coach Hesselmeyer are very unfortunate. But we have a very caring and compassionate school and parent community that has come together to help the team deal with this situation.”
Hesselmeyer and his wife Jennie--who also faces charges of cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of methamphetamine--are scheduled to appear Aug. 28 in Santa Barbara Superior Court.
Dos Pueblos starts practice Wednesday.
