CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. — A man was arrested after Alameda County sheriff’s deputies seized 870 marijuana plants they say he was growing in his home.
Kenny Su Kim, 32, of Castro Valley was arrested Friday after firefighters arrived at his home on a call about a blaze there, sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Dudek said.
Deputies also seized 11 pounds of dried marijuana. The plants have a reported street value of about $500,000.
Dudek said Kim wired the electricity in his home to bypass a utility meter that would have indicated high usage. Several rooms had sophisticated lighting, water and exhaust systems for cultivating the pot. Kim was scheduled to be arraigned in Hayward Superior Court today.
