* It was heartening to read that the Cinerama Dome will be preserved (Dec. 9). Now, if only the landlords of Fullerton’s Fox Theatre, San Clemente’s Miramar, Corona del Mar’s Port and Laguna Niguel’s Niguel could find it in their hearts to restore and reopen these once-majestic cinema houses.

Since the Cinerama Dome and its wonderful curved screen have now been saved, is there any reason why Stanley Kubrick’s “2001--A Space Odyssey” cannot be shown in its original Cinerama format for the year 2001 restoration? Those of us who saw the original when it was issued (Warner’s Cinerama Theater) do not recall distortion on the sides of the curved Cinerama screen, only the experience of one of the greatest films ever made.
