For the fifth consecutive year, the South Orange County Community College District speech team has won a first-place college sweepstakes award at the league championships. The team, which is in the 78-school Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Assn., also won the novice sweepstakes. Irvine Valley College team coach Gary Rybold earned the Jack Howe Award, given to the coach by league members.
