Granada Hills Is Doubles Loser

Top-seeded Marisa Edwards and Lauren Sykulski of University High defeated Shannon Slotnick and Valerie Ramirez of Granada Hills, 6-4, 6-2, to win the City Section girls’ doubles tennis championship Tuesday at the L.A. Fitness-Warner Center Racket Club.
In the girls’ singles final, top-seeded Jessica Roland of Hollywood High dropped only three games in a 6-1, 6-2 victory over third-seeded Kristina Olshanskaya of Fairfax.
Roland, a junior, broke Olshanskaya’s serve five times, including her first three service attempts.
Kien Thay and Rozi Mkrthian of Marshall defeated Andrea Blieden and Jennifer Steinberg of Granada Hills, 6-4, 6-1, in the third-place doubles match.
Ramirez and Slotnick, the Highlanders’ No. 1 team who were seeded second in the tournament, finished the season with a 20-2 record. Blieden and Steinberg wound up 20-3.
Moe Moe Myinttun of Fairfax finished third in singles when Silvia Gugielmi of Palisades retired with an injury.
