2 Small Brush Fires Burn 3 Acres Along Mulholland

Los Angeles firefighters extinguished two small brush fires along Mulholland Drive before they could spread and threaten nearby homes Tuesday morning.
Eleven firetrucks and three helicopters were sent to fight the fires, which started about 9:25 a.m. and were fanned by 25 mph Santa Ana winds, according to Bob Collis, a Fire Department spokesman.
Together, the brush fires burned about three acres along Mulholland Drive at Nicada Drive and Stoneridge Lane. They were extinguished in about 45 minutes, Collis said.
Jeff House, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times, predicted more easterly Santa Ana winds and balmy weather for the San Fernando Valley through the end of the week. Winds will probably increase today, blowing through the Valley at 30 mph, then slow and cool off Thursday and Friday.
