The City Council approved $100,241 last week for two natural gas-powered maintenance trucks and a refueling station. The city owns five trucks that run on both natural gas and traditional gasoline and has to refuel them in Irvine.
The city will use Air Quality Management District funds to buy the trucks, which cost $24,570 each. City officials said that by using the cleaner-burning fuel--which costs about 40 to 50 cents a gallon--the city will save money in the long run. The refueling station will be built behind the city animal shelter.
