They Got Game-O

For an eclectic crowd, a charitable cause and a tasty eggnog latte, Stonewall Coffee’s Dollar Bingo on Thursday nights may just be the ticket.

The weekly event is hosted by Belle Aire, the coffee shop’s resident drag queen, with guest celebrity callers. Yelling and screaming are de rigueur--so is pelting the winners with wadded-up bingo cards.

Thirteen games are played, at $1 per game, until the final round when the price jumps to $5. Prizes for the event are donated from local merchants. Game proceeds benefit different charities.

“It’s a very diverse, great crowd,” Sandy Russell, general manager of Stonewall Coffee, says. “There are old people, gay couples, straight couples. There’s even a guy who has his Dalmatian hold the dauber for good luck!”
