Appreciating Sara, Her Coach and Family

Re “Just One of the Boys” by Renee Tawa (Nov. 16):
I found myself reading the whole article twice. Wow, what a story of some very wonderful people: first of all Sara, with her determination to persevere, and second, Coach Rich Wheeler, who had the courage to select such a person as Sara. Some people will say he chose her to have a female on his squad, but I think he is a good judge of athletes who took the opportunity to develop her into a better one.
Sara’s family, and especially her dad, has to take credit for allowing her to pursue her dream. I have an athletic granddaughter and can completely relate to the whole story. My granddaughter is a highly sought-after basketball player right now, although she will not enter high school until next year. I am going to give her this article to read, with the hope that she will take some wisdom from what Sara has accomplished.
