* TAFT (11-2) vs. BANNING (10-3)
At the Coliseum, 8 p.m. TV: KLCS, Channel 58
Ignore the first meeting between these two schools, won by Banning, 41-13, in week one. “We were absolutely in shambles,” Coach Troy Starr of Taft said. The Toreadors’ offensive line was overwhelmed, but led by Chris Garlington, has made steady improvement. If quarterback Brandon Hance finds receivers Lawrence Wallace and Ronald Andrews, the Toreadors could move the ball against the Pilots as Granada Hills did last week. Hance has completed 37 of 59 passes for 550 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions in the playoffs. Marquis Brignac of Taft has 3,689 yards rushing in his career. Banning pressed Long Beach Poly, 35-34, in a nonleague game. Junior Chris Howard, who had 343 yards rushing against Granada Hills, has 2,303 yards and 30 touchdowns this season. He’ll face a Taft defense that features 300-pound tackle Carl Cannon and sophomore defensive back Lee Marks. Banning is seeking its 11th City title. Taft is 0-3 in City title games under Coach Troy Starr and lost the past two seasons to San Pedro at the Coliseum.
