Bibby Is Wary of Hobbled Eaddy

Loyola Marymount point guard Haywood Eaddy has battled a sprained ankle through the early part of the season and might not play against the Trojans at the Sports Arena tonight, but that hasn’t stopped USC Coach Henry Bibby from worrying about him.
“He’s the type of player who causes you a lot of problems with his quickness,” said Bibby, who knows something about playing guard from his days at UCLA and in the NBA. “I really like him.”
The 5-foot-4 Eaddy had 22 points and five assists against USC last season, giving the Lions a one-point lead on a layup with 1:24 remaining. It took a jump shot by Adam Spanich to help the Trojans to a 92-88 victory at Gersten Pavilion.
Matchups between Southern California schools are especially important because they influence recruiting of local players, said Bibby, whose unbeaten team barely escaped with a win against underdog Santa Barbara on Friday.
“[Loyola Marymount] has something to prove,” Bibby said. “We’re trying to fight for territorial rights playing these California teams.”
