Judge Strikes Down Abortion Limit

A federal judge in Trenton, N.J., struck down New Jersey’s ban on so-called partial-birth abortions, ruling that the law threatened to have a chilling effect on abortion rights in the state. U.S. District Judge Anne Thompson issued a permanent injunction against the New Jersey Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 1997. Plaintiffs had challenged the law on grounds that its language was vague enough to ban most abortions.
